Genshin Impact Begins HarmonyOS Beta Testing A Milestone for Huawei’s Gaming Ecosystem

Finally arriving!
Mihoyo officially announced that the recruitment testing for the HarmonyOS version of “Genshin Impact” will commence at 12:00 today. This version will only be open to players with HarmonyOS devices. The recruitment aims to ensure the compatibility of future versions with HarmonyOS. Ever since the HarmonyOS ecosystem was launched, many gamers have been eagerly awaiting the release of a HarmonyOS version of “Genshin Impact.” Given that popular games like “Kingdom Hearts” and “PUBG Mobile” from Tencent are already available, a HarmonyOS version would be a welcome addition, achieving a two-way win for both developers and players.
As shown on Weibo, attention must be paid to the fact that the currently available version of the recruitment testing has much content still under development. This means that the game may undergo adjustments based on player feedback, with improvements made step by step. Additionally, all participants in the test need to sign a confidentiality agreement. This is to protect the experience of players in the official server and to avoid misunderstandings from some players who may misinterpret the information.
Which models are being recruited? Let’s take a look. According to official announcements from miHoYo, currently supported models include the Huawei Pura 80 series, nova 14 series, and Huawei Mate 70 series. Foldable devices include the Huawei Mate X6. The recruitment period is from June 27th at 12:00 to July 4th at 14:00. Players interested in participating can fill out the questionnaire to apply for test eligibility.
As a high-performance 3D game that requires a lot from a mobile phone, “Genshin Impact” is often used to test the performance of flagship phones. The launch of this HarmonyOS version not only means improvements in performance, ecosystem compatibility, and user rights, but also symbolizes a step forward in technological innovation.
Firstly, the performance is deeply optimized. Native HarmonyOS applications can reduce system overhead and improve frame rate stability, especially on high-end devices, which may support 120FPS high frame rates. Battery life is improved due to CPU/GPU-specific optimizations, leading to better heat dissipation.
Secondly, ecosystem compatibility is enhanced. At the Huawei launch event in May, CEO Richard Liu revealed that the HarmonyOS 5 system has already updated to over 30 versions, with over 100 system-level features added. A new app is launched every day. If “Genshin Impact” is successfully adapted, it could achieve seamless switching between phone, tablet, and computer games, a dream come true. Players can also use smart TVs for screen casting to play games on large screens.
Lastly, the strategic significance for the HarmonyOS ecosystem. The adaptation of major games from the side validates HarmonyOS’s ability to handle large-scale 3D games, attracting more manufacturers to follow suit, accelerating the “de-Androidization” process. Huawei plans to complete the native adaptation of the top 500 applications by 2027. If “Genshin Impact” succeeds, it will directly meet the core needs of the gaming user base.
As miHoYo says, “Genshin Impact” is starting to adapt, when will “King of Glory,” “League of Legends,” and “QQ Racing” be given priority? My colleague with a Huawei Pura 70 Ultra already can’t wait for large-scale mobile games to be adapted.
In summary, although the performance is still in the adjustment phase, the gaming ecosystem for HarmonyOS will continue to grow over time. It’s possible that in the future, “playing with everything interconnected” will no longer be a fantasy! If the optimization results are significant, HarmonyOS could indeed become the third major gaming platform after iOS and Android.
By the way, which games do you hope will be adapted to the HarmonyOS next system?
